We have just finished our third year of funded programming, and are now well into our third season.

Last year we gave over 150 free lessons and six Jazz and Latin music workshops at Reagan High, Johnston High, Travis High, and Mendez Middle schools. This was double our program scope of the previous year, and twice as successful!

This year we have expanded to two more schools (Martin and Fulmore Middle Schools), and have added a third workshop:“The Mathematics of Rhythm.”We hope to provide over 200 lessons this season-- the need-base is so large, we haven't even begun to reach half of the kids that really want to study music and aren't able to do so for purely economic reasons.

Last year was an enormous success, as this year continues to be. At the beginning of last year, none of our students had ever improvised -- they didn't realize that this was possible. By the end of the year, every Anthropos Music student had learned to improvise and solo. Some students began with only the ability to play two notes on their instrument, and finished the year soloing over complex jazz compositions. Teachers, band directors, and parents have noted marked improvement in tone, technique, confidence and focus -- support from the community has been overwhelming.
