On Sunday, May 19th at the Steamboat (110 E. Riverside), local Austin I.S.D. students from the Anthropos Arts music education program will perform live on stage with members of La Tribu, Ta Mere, The Gypsies, Austin Symphony and Lyric Opera, Dr. L. Subramanium Group, Big Game Hunter, Ghandaia, Grupo Fantasma, and many other local talents.

Anthropos Arts is a local non-profit music education organization which brings Austin professional musicians into public schools, providing a series of free lessons and workshops to economically disadvantaged students. All proceeds from the show go towards the continuation and expansion of this process.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. - $5 cover

Students and teachers will perform together from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. (Anthropos strings students will perform with The Gypsies and special guests at 6:00pm, followed by the Anthropos jazz students performing with an all-star band of local and international talents)

Following this, (8:30-10:00pm) Austin's own big world band, The Gypsies, joined by guest master artists from Calcutta, Idrigit Banerjee (sitar) and Gourisankar Karmakar, will share their blend of Persian, Indian, and Mediterranean music - strings, sitar, and loads of percussion led by vocalist Mohammed Firoozi.

Closing the evening (10:30pm -?) will be The Sky High Sessions featuring DJ Trey Lopez joined by world percussion masters Carmelo Torrez, John Speis, Amit Magwar, Alsyne Sylla, et al -- fusing hip-hop with an array of live and mixed world sounds and beats that you can't help but move to.
