Press Realease Announcing The Second Annual Anthropos Music Student/Teacher Concert
On Saturday, May 19th at the Mercury (214 E. 6th St.), local Austin I.S.D. students from the Anthropos Music education program will perform live on stage with members of La Tribu, The Gypsies, The Brannen Temple Group, Big Game Hunter, East Babylon Symphony and many other local talents. Anthropos Music is a local non-profit music education organization which brings Austin professional musicians into public schools, providing a series of free lessons and workshops to economically disadvantaged students. All proceeds from the show go towards the continuation and expansion of this process. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Students and teachers will perform together from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. (Anthropos jazz students will perform with an all-star band at 8:00pm, followed by the Anthropos string students performing with The Gypsies) Following this, (9:00 - 10:30) Austin's own big world band, The Gypsies, will share their blend of Persian, Indian, and Mediterranean music - strings, sitar, and loads of percussion led by vocalist Mohammed Firoozi. Closing the evening (11:00pm -?) will be world music phenomenon Govinda, recently returning from a successful U.S. tour, playing an array of world sounds and beats that you can't help but move to.
